Why Seaham Hall is the Perfect Place to Celebrate
There is no experience comparable to taking in the scenery of a dramatic coastline, and the Durham Heritage Coast is no exception. Having earned its Coast Heritage status by emerging from an industrial past to one of the most beautiful coastlines in England, the area is rich in wildlife and tranquil scenery.
The coastal path that runs along much of the coast leads explorers through a mosaic of wild-flower rich grasslands and woodland valleys, with plenty of scenic spots to stop for a picnic. Sandwiched between the Yorkshire Moors National Park and the Northumberland National Park, the stretch of coast from County Durham to the North Sea provides an abundance of natural and geological beauty to discover.
This year, Durham’s spectacular heritage coastline is under the spotlight, as part of a nationwide campaign to promote England’s coast as a sustainable year-round destination. Year of the Coast 2023 aims to bring coastal destinations together to showcase their diverse offers, while also raising awareness of the challenges faced by communities and businesses in these areas. Visit County Durham, Durham County Council’s tourism service, is a key partner in the campaign, which is being led by the National Coastal Tourism Academy.
When it comes to choosing the best location from which to explore the coast, Seaham Hall is the prime location. Just a ten minute walk from Seaham Beach, the ornate white walls of Seaham Hall sits like a pearly gem along the flourishing coastline, its 37 acres of garden looking out over the North Sea.
Guests can take the short walk from Seaham’s grounds toward the shingle beach, and experience an abundance of seaside activities, such as walking across the sand or sifting in the shingle for sea-glass that provides the richest source of sea glass in the UK. Seaham Hall celebrates and spotlights the beauty of Durham Heritage Coast not only through its stunning coastal location and ocean views, but also with the likes of al fresco dining and the Serenity Spa, that uses seaweed infused treatments by Ishga to accentuate the sensation of being surrounded by the sea. Guests can venture the coastal path that lines Seaham Hall by borrowing a bike from the hotel, or take a leisurely stroll into Seaham town, where they’ll find a host of ice cream shops and Seaham Marina.
No matter which way guests choose to experience the Durham Heritage Coast this year, a stay at Seaham Hall provides the ultimate luxury destination from which to explore - making 2023 truly the Year of the Coast.
